Acura introduces the popular TLX’s second generation in 2021 with bold updates from front to rear. This midsize luxury sedan has been a prime option for our customers at Acura of Jackson to consider since its debut in 2014, and the next-generation improvements boost its appeal to new heights. What are the differences between the 2020 and 2021 Acura TLX?
The 2020 Acura TLX has two powertrain possibilities. The introductory engine is a 2.4-liter, I-4 gas engine with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. This combination puts out 206 horsepower. The higher-level engine for the 2020 TLX is a 3.5-liter, V6 engine with a 290-horsepower rating. For 2021, the Acura TLX’s base powertrain is a turbo I-4, 2.0-liter engine tied to a 10-speed auto transmission featuring Sequential SportShift tech. It produces 272 horsepower. The more powerful engine for 2021 produces 355 horsepower. Another important difference between the performance abilities of the 2020 and 2021 Acura TLX is in the suspension. The 2020 TLX’s MacPherson front strut suspension has been replaced by a double-wishbone front suspension in 2021.
Visually, the differences between the 2020 Acura TLX and the 2021 TLX are stunning. They both have a lowered stance with an attractive, flowing profile. However, the 2021 TLX’s body is longer and features a lower roof. It also introduces thinner headlights that are each underscored by an electrifying LED bar. In addition, the 2021 Acura TLX has sharper definition along the nose, hood and sides. The combined impact of these improvements gives the next-generation Acura TLX a bolder, more confident look.
As a luxury sedan, the Acura TLX for 2020 and for 2021 are loaded with premium features at all trim levels. However, some upgrades are accessible in the latest model year. For example, the 2020 TLX has dual screens for the infotainment system and a standard sound system. The 2021 TLX upgrades these to a single, larger display screen with touch accessibility and a 17-speaker advanced sound system. There are also new features in the AcuraWatch™ assistive safety suite for 2021. These include traffic sign recognition and driver awareness sensing. A few other now-standard features for the 2021 model year are a heads-up display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
